Re: PM and PM2 Comparison
Foregoing bullet points cause I'm lazy.
Story
Villains: Bowser vs. X-Nauts (i.e. known character vs. new character)
Partners: From what I recall, there's one introduced in every chapter except chapter 8 for both games.
Other NPCs: There's only a couple that reoccur. Most are specific to a chapter.
Mcguffans: Sentient Star Spirits vs. Generic Shiny Rocks.
Battle System
Mario: Not much is different from the first to the second.
Partners: In the first game, partners had no HP, and were taken out of combat for a number of turns when hit. In the second game, they had their own HP.
Stuff shared between Mario and the Partners: In both games FP, BP, and items are shared. SP is used by Mario only. Second game introduced super guarding.
Enemies: Tend to have HP, attack power, and defense. Each enemy has it's own tattle log entry in PM2. Each enemy has about 1-3 different moves to choose from.
Events: PM had no battle events. PM2 introduced the audience as well as the lottery, which can either aid or hinder Mario and Co.
Locations:
1st chapter: plains
2nd chapter: large desert vs. artsy woods.
3rd chapter: ghost mansion vs. Glitzville
4th chapter: toy box vs. ghost steeple
5th chapter: flower fields vs. island
6th chapter: island vs. train
7th chapter: tundra vs. space.
8th chapter: lava castle vs. shadow castle
